"Before I Go" 09/03/2011
Next monday my pastrol care class and I will be embarking on a 4 week journey which will test our mental abillity and our physical attrabuites. The Journey is expected to test us physically and show our real characters. Some of the thoughts that are going through my head are, what is the camp going to be like, will I make it through by my self or will i need the help of my peers. Some of the exciting parts of my journey which I am looking foward to is finding my real character and what I am made of. I am also looking foward to who I will get along with and who I wont get along with so well. At the moment while I wonder what the camp is going to be like I feel uneasy of the thought of being away from home for 4 weeks and how will things be done. I am also very unsure if I have the character and the mental strength to do so much fitness work. Although I am very motivated by the though of becoming bigger stronger faster and more independent when I come back. Because of this I belive the camp will be a bit of give and take. Firstly it will give us the chance of freedom being away from our parents. It will also give us the sense of becoming stronger even though the trade off is plenty of early morning wake ups and long long runs. And some the things we have to give up is the fact that our parents wont be there to guide us when we are lost or be there when we fall, speaking metaphorically. This will really test our independence.
Having an older brother who has been on the wabanna journey before really makes me nervous about the camp because of all the storys he has told me about getting sick of living with others and getting sick of them and letting our anger get the better of us. But although this makes me nervous it also will help me get over some of the unusual experiences I will have to face.
At the end of the Camp I am really looking foward to how I will change. I belive the camp will really change me mentaly, physically, make me respect others, make me respect what my parents do and lastly make me more independent. I belive these changes will only come into place if I really put in the hard yards wheather is during the fitness tests our the group activitys I belive puting in my best effort will change me and this is a real motivation which I will act towards to help me get though the camp.
My final comment is that during this camp I will do everything I can to become a better person and get a glimpse of the real world which is apart from the spoilt and rotten world many of us (including me) live in. I hope to achive things that I would not normally aspire to. And lastly I belive it will be the trip of a life time and it will be worth the hard work and the tirless acctivitys but it will all be good fun.

Welcome to my Wambana Blog
Dear Parents, family, staff and friends visiting my blog. As many of you know I am currently on a 4 week program run by the school. The program is designed to make us mentaly stronger and make us more independent. The camp is located in Point Turton which is a small town within the Yorke Peninsula. The first four days of our camp we spent on a cycle tour and camping out at the wamabana campus. After four days as of saturday 20th of march we moved into out wardlis. The wardlis are like our own personal homes which we live in, whithin a group of us. I share my Wardlis with, Olly Collison, George Waterhouse, Lachlan Pye, Vince Rocca and Sam Sibly. When we first moved into the Wardlis we tried forming them to make them fill more like home. In our Wardli there are 3 Bedrooms, 6 beds, 2 Bathrooms containing a shower a toilet and a basin, a laundry room, a dinning room, and a kitchen. In each bedroom we have 2 people sharing a room. I share my room with George Waterhouse. The word Wardli scomes from local Aboriginal language meaning "dwelling".
Cycle Tour
Tuesday was our very first day of the Cycling tour. All of us went into the day feeling relaxed and excited to what we were about to encounter. But little did we know how tiring the cycle tour would be. Everyone in the group started the cycle tour very strongly. I was leading for most of the first bit and I was feeling very good about it. The road we were cycling on was very rough but everyone pulled through. At first I was unsure about if I could pull through the whole cycle tour but through to the end of the day I believed I could pull through.

Old school house loop (20km)and Warroka loop (20km)
The first part of our full day journey, the Warooka loop began with us getting all of our gear together for the trip. We were given helmets and bikes from our Cycling instructor Pete. I was pretty amazed at the quality of the bikes and the helmets. They were very good. After everyone had measured up and has been given the bikes we took off around the wambanna area. On the way through our journey we came upon a old school. I was very fascinated by the school and was told later that they have all kinds of old schools like this various one all around the Yorke peninsula. We were told that these old schools were used in the early 1800's instead of having local and private schools as we have these days.
We kept on cycling on. I was felling very good and strong about it all. I was very pleased with the lack of support all the kids gave to each others and the teachers seemed to be very impressed by it. It made me feel really good and gave a sense of "team" within the group. This was very good and lasted right through till the end of the cycle tour.
The next leg of the 1st day of the cycle tour was of the Warroka loop. like the 1st leg of the the 1st day cycle tour, it was on rough roads. By now my muscles started burning and the mental factor of trying to stay strong was starting to come in place. I wasn't to happy at the start of the cycle because at the start I accidentally started cycling on the wrong side of the road. This then caused our cycling instructor (Pete) to give us the consequence. The consequence ended up being us carrying our bikes on our shoulders for 300m. And by the time we finished the other boys didn't feel very happy about me. But after a while they forgot about it.
After the first incident with us all carrying the bikes we all worked well as a team and proved to the staff that we were a tight group who worked really well together. Even though some of the time a lot of us got too far in front of each others and were eventually told to stop.
The Last part of the leg ended up being the best bit for day one. After cycling over big rough hills really made our legs feel it. The last part of the trip was us going down big hills which were bitumen roads. This really gave a thrill and was a relief to finally be going down nice smooth roads and down hills.
When we finally got back I got off my bike. That was when I started to really feel the pain.

Innes National park (40km)
Today everyone started the day slower compared to day 1. I guess we were all feeling the pain from the previous day. We started with all of us checking our bikes seeing if they were still running fine. This was a bit frustrating because it took a while as quiet a few people needed to get there bike fixed. But after that we got started.
The first bit of day 2 involved stunning views which many took photos of. The Views were just amazing and just showed the beauty of the Yorke Peninsula. After around 3 km of riding we approached a big hill. Getting up was easy but when we looked at the slanting part of the hill we were quiet pleased that we got to go down it. That was until we were told we would be coming up the same way. The view from the top of the hill was easily one of the most impressive views I have ever seen.
The rest of day 2 cycle tour was very easy and relaxed. That was until we reached this long dirt road which had many many bumps which was so frustrating to cycle over. After we got past the dirt road we arrived at a beach. A few of the boys went for a swim while others wrote their letters and ate their lunch. It was only until later that we found out the the water at the beach was freezing. Writing the letter was a real challenge because firstly we needed to find 400 words to write on paper while we only had 1 hour to do it in. This may sound very easy but in real it was stressful.
After we got up the hill it was all down hill and was a real relief on our legs.

Sunbury to Edithburg (48km)
Today was the last day of our cycling tour and I was and I'm sure everyone else was very keen to get the cycle tour over and done with. I was feeling very fatigued and I was very tired from the lack of sleep from the tents and the amount of cycling we had done. One of the motivations of completing the last day of the cycle tour was the happiness and relief of completing the "highest gear challenge". This kept me going for most of the cycle.
We started like the previous day of checking all of our tires. Again it was stressful and took a bit of time but we finally got going. One of the things that was special about today was I was the leader of the day along with Sibly. (More information on the leadership program can be found under "Leadership day") what was even more special about today was the staff gave us much more responsibility compared to the other leaders. We were expected to encourage all of the boys, keep them as a team and make sure there doing the right thing. This was another motivation for me, although at times it could be really stressful as people really got on your nerves and annoyed you although they were doing the right thing. Another responsibility the staff gave us was to navigate where we were going. This was good knowing that we had power to prove our selves to the staff but was very hard at times because it was a stressful responsibility knowing that if we stuffed up it would effect all members of the team.
The first part of the journey was bumpy but all boys kept relatively close together and our improvement of team work was really starting to show and everyone was impressed by it. The first part of the journey was hard because some of the navigation was very difficult with sometimes finding the turns was difficult. The end of the first part of the day lead to us ending up at a beach. The beach was ultimately called suicide point. The story behind the name of the beach was about a man in 2002 who was a keen fisherman went out there one day and caught a huge fish apparently and was eventually dragged into the water. I found this story very interesting. There was also a memorial dedicated to him at the beach.
At the beach we wrote another letter. This was starting to get very annoying having to write 400 words every day. And finding words was very difficult.
After we had eaten our lunch, finished our lunch and played around a bit we took back off on the bikes. This last part of the journey easily summed up our whole cycle tour and really showed what we were capable of doing as a group. It was a real thrill.
We started the first part of the last leg of the cycle tour as we had been starting the whole tour. faster people at the front and slower people at the front with a fairly big gap between all of us. It was only until around half way through the last leg was when our instructor came up with the idea of all of us getting in to formation. Getting us to form lines of 3. The aim of it was to get the stronger cyclers at the front and their aim was to try to absorb the head wind coming from in front of us. This would in return allow the weaker cyclers at the back to just cycle with no problems in having the wind dragging them back. Everyone obeyed the orders and we kept as tight as we could for the whole way back. As the leader of the day it made my job so much easier and really showed what sort of things our group was capable of.
When we were around 3 quarters finished we had a quick stop at a light house. This light house was extremely windy but was just amazing to look at. The structure of it was just spectacular.
After our stop at the light house we took off again down a big steep hill. Although this time we went one by one due to safety concerns of someone crashing into each others. When it was my time to go down the hill I was given a real scare. Due to the hill being gravel the instructor warned us to be careful because the bike could slip on the gravel. This is what happened to me, I was going down fast down the hill and suddenly I hit a dip or a rock or something on the hill and my bike tilted slightly. As soon as I did this my front wheel skidded and Just as I looked like I was going to sleep I managed to save my fall. It was a real relief.
When I got down the hill after my little problem we all regathered as a tight group and we took off again. On the way to the end we approached windmills. These windmills were amazing and were huge. Being right up next to them made you feel so small. After our encounter with the windmill we approached our destination and the end of our cycle tour. We had finally arrived in Edithburg.
When we arrived in Edithburg we got a few videos of us finally arriving. It was a real achievement in knowing that I had just completed 128km's in 3 days. But our journey hadn't finished there. When we had came to a halt with our bikes Dale told us that we had to go swim in the tide pool at Edithburg. I was really looking forward to this moment because I thought they would be refreshing. This was until I finally saw them. For those of you who don't know what a tide pool is. It is a big pool located next to the beach. The beach due to it location right next to the beach all the salt water from the beach flows into it. Making it freezing and salty. It was just horrible when we were told to jump in. But after we had finally got out of the tide pool we knew our cycle tour had finished and to my own thought I belive it really made a difference on me and I felt mentally and physically stronger. And I hope I proved the point to the staff and my fellow students of what I am capable of.

Friday, 18th March 2011 (3.4km) wambanna campus to the rock and back.
Time- 14:13 secs
This was our first run of the camp. We were expected to run from the
I started the run off strongly and felt really good off the blocks. Once I had maintained a strong lead on the others I started to pace my self. It wasn't only until I was half way through running back was it till I started to feel it in my chest and my legs. And once I had arrived back I was struggling to breath and I went underneath the cold shower. This helped me a bit.
Some of the things that really helped me through the run was the thought and the motivation of getting fit ready for the footy season.
Some of the things that I told my self that I would do in the next run is to run alongside the pack for the run instead of giving my self a big lead and running by my self for the run. I believe that in doing this I will be able to have a chat with the others and this will get my mind off running and in result make me less tired.
Saturday, 19th March 2011 (5.5km) wambanna campus to the end of the jetty and back
Time- 23:20 secs
Today's run I wasn't really thinking about what I would do to improve my run but one of my tactics I did change to hopefully get my mind off things which would in then result in me feeling less tired. I took this tactic in to the place and stayed out the front with the front pack until half way where I took off and gave my self a bigger lead. I then maintained my pace and finished strongly. Once I had finished I struggled to breath and was boiling hot. So I took a quick shower. This immediately made me feel much better. Once thing I had noticed which had changed during my runs was that my legs were now becoming stronger and they weren't as painful as they have been in previous runs.
Sunday, 20th March 2011 (3.4km) wambanna campus to the rock and back.
Time- 13:51 secs
During today's run I gave my self in using the tactics of just running and just forgetting about how long the run was. I felt that this had really helped me and I just ran. I lead the whole way to the end and I felt amazing. Although when I finally reached the last 100m mark I was starting to burn in the legs. But it really showed that I wasn't exactly in prime condition to do the 3.4km but instead of taking it as "I'm not fit" I took it more as a motivation that I need to get fitter. I believe the best way to improve is to not reflect on the negative sides of things but use the negative things and use them as motivation to get better. At the end of the run I couldn't stand up but it told me that I'm really pushing my self and I'm improving. This is also shown in the difference between my times. This made me happy.
Monday, 21st March 2011 Games
Today was a bit of recovery session for us after 3 long runs in the previous day. During the games session we played a big of dodge ball and did some relays. This was easy on my muscles and really gave me a good rest ready for the next day.
Tuesday, 22nd March 2011 (5.5km) wambanna campus to the end of the jetty and back
Time- 22:14cs
This run session I went in like the previous session not thinking about how long we have to run and just get out there and run. This worked for me and I stayed in a pack of 4 which was the leading pack alongside Jack Daly, Ned Murdoch and Olly Collison. As a group we stayed tight all the way to the half way mark which was the jetty. From there me a Ned broke off from the the other two and started racing off. We got quiet a huge lead on them and it was only until the 3 quarter way mark was when I took off from Ned. I pushed my self and was feeling the pain. I was really glad that I had Ned to push me along. It also felt good to have some competition to get me across the line. In the end I beat Ned by around 10 seconds. Fut her behind Olly and Jack who were with us for most of the journey finished up a further 3 minutes behind us. But for me in the end it wasn't about the competition. I was thrilled about beating my previous time by a whole 1 minute and 10 seconds. I was very pleased with my self. And I believed I was getting fitter. I am really looking forward to the few more runs which are slightly longer in the near future. I am sure they will test me physically.
Wednesday, 23rd March 2011- Leadership day. No tranning
Thrsday, 24th March 2011 (9.2km) run around the block
Time- 49.55secs
Todays run everyone went into the run feeling uneasy abour running 9.2km. Going into the run I dont think anyone had ever run 9 km. On my own personal account on going into the 9kms I just went into the run having the mind set of just running. This worked for me and while I was running I only foucused on slowing my beathing rate. This really helped me as it helped my fatigue.
For the first part of the run we were expected to run as a group for 5.5km untill we reached the beach. This was very easy running as a group for we werent going very fast because we had to wait for the boys at the back to keep up. It was only untill we reached the 5.5km mark was it when we could break off and run the last 3.7km at our own pace. When it was finaly time to break off I took off and lead all the way back. It was very painful but I pushed through and hopefully it has developed me physically and mentally.
Friday, 25th March 2011 Beach walk
Todays Session was a recovery session from our 9.2km run. I belive compared to most of the other boys I pulled up ok. Not too sore not too tired. In the Beach walk I really tried to lossen my muscles and just relax. Walking on the beach was veryrelaxing with the wind in your face and the soft surfface of the sand really felt good. I hope it helped me with my recovery and I hope I do even better in future runs.
Saturday, 26th March 2011- Leadership day. No traning
Sunday, 27th March 2011 (5.5km) wambanna campus to the end of the jetty and back
Time- 26:30 secs
Todays session was very unusual for me considering I hadn't ran in the past few days. Before the race I had some mental thoughts that it would be difficult for me consideing I hadnt been keeping up my running cycle.
I started the race on the wrong foot by giving my self negetive thoughts all through out the run. Although I kept up with the leading pack till the half way mark. Then like always I took off. But this time one of the staff at scotts creek who had previously the day before came and checked out the wambana campus was running alongside with us. When we turned around at the jetty I thought I could just take off but he was right behind me. His fitness was unbelivable so I pushed my self and pushed my self to try and keep up with him. We were quiet ahead of everyone else untill I saw Lachy pye sprinting around the corner. Soon later he caught up with us and was around 20m behind. These positions stayed till we were 70m to go. Simon who was neck and neck with me the whole race took off and lachy was starting his sprint too. Due to Simon pushing me so hard I couldnt take it so I stoped. Soon later Lachy sprinted past me so I took off again in a sprint. I really pushed my self to beat him. But when I finally got in front of him with around 40m to go my body started feeling the pain and I colapsed to the ground grasping in air. I was trying to vomit but I had nothing to vomit up. This was a really hard experience for me but I was very posetive about it. I knew that even though I didnt completly finish the race, I really pushed my self to the limit.
Monday, 28th March 2011 Power Traning
Today was my first power traning. I was really looking foward today so that I could learn some of the drills that I could take home with me.
Before the start of the traning I was expecting the drills to be easy but when we acctualy did the program I could really feel the burn. One of the mind sets that I put my self through, thoughout the excerises is to really push my self.
The first drill we did was some different types of pushups to work our uper body strength. I really enjoyed these drills and I could really feel the burn from all the pushups.
Our next drill was some different team acctivities on the chin up bars. Like the push ups I enjoyed this to and really tried to do my best.
After the session I was really starting to fatigue. But I was very happy with my self because I really tried to push my self. And when there was a set amount on how many pushups or situps we had to do. I always tried to do more.
Tuesday, 29th March 2011 (3.4km) wambanna campus to the rock and back.
Time- 13:22 secs
Today was by far the hardest running session I had ever been through. It wasnt because the running track was difficult, but it was because I pushed my hardest. One of the motivations I had during this run was to beat my old personal best, so I went out hard at the start and kept a constant pace for the rest of the run.
Half way through the run I was around 20 meters ahead of everyone else and felt like I had a bit left inside of me, so I took off again and I didnt look back. In the end I ended up winning by 30 seconds. It was very pleasing, although I was stuffed at the end and struggled to stand up.
Another pleasing thing about the run was that my old personal best for the 3km not the 3.4km was 14 minutes in year 8. Now one year later I am running 13.22 minutes and adding and extra 400m. This was very pleasing and I will try to use this motivation in future runs which I hope to do my best.
Wednesday, 30th March 2011 (5.5km) wambanna campus to the end of the jetty and back, (team Session)
Time- 25:13 secs
Todays fitness session was dediated to try to improve our team work and try to push others who are slightly slower to push harder. We were splitted into 2 teams. A fast team and a slow team. In both teams there was around 7 people. In my team there was, me, Jake, Henry, Daly, Lachy, Ned, Chris and Vince. The slower team started 4 minutes before us and our aim was to try to beat them as a group.
We started the run at a constant run. Not to fast, not to slow. we kept at a strong constant pace the whole way untill the we got near the jetty. That was when we saw the other group. This really lifted our spirits and we took off in the hope of getting closer to them. They were around 400m ahead. We thought we were really in for a chance.
Once we had turned around at the jetty we went back to our normal pace. The other group could clearly see us and we could see them picking up the pace. At around this stage my muscles were starting to burn.Strangley enough I found it much harder going at a slower pace while running in a group compared to running at my own pace.
With around 200m to go we were extremly close to them. We felt our chances rise and we took off in a sprint. While at the same time they took off at a sprint as well. With around 50m to go other members in my group started feeling the pain and couldnt take the pain any more and stoped. This effected our whole group because it was a group acctivity and if he stoped we had to stop. This made me slightly disapointed considering how hard we ran. But in the end I was glad that we made it to the end and everyone really showed what they able to do as a group even when they are exahusted.
Thursday, 31st march 2011- Beach walk
Today was one of the days in which I was not really looking foward to. This was because of all the hard work we had been putting into our running over the past few days now lead to a walk. Which was disappointing because I really just wanted to continue with my running.
The walk was very easy and was fairly good and relaxing on my muscles even though they weren't very sore. Although the walk was very refreshing as well with the cool winds coming from the ocean and the rising sun really brought up the atmosphere.
Friday, 1st April 2011- Leadership day. No traning
Saturday, 2nd April 2011 (5.5km) wambanna campus to the end of the jetty and back
Time- 20.50 secs
Today was the last 5.5km run we were doing for the rest of the camp. I was really looking foward to this run and I really prepared my self to do the best I could.
I started the run as hard as I could getting in front of everyone by a fair bit. This got me into a good rhythem and I continued to run at a stong pace for the whole race. I felt very overwhelmed because everytime I looked over my shoulder I could see that I was getting further and further infront of everyone. At the last straight I looked down at my watch and saw that I had 1 minute to get under the 21 minute mark so I took off leaving all regrets behind. When I finally arrived back at the shed I was stoked when I got my time. I had beaten my previous time by around 1 minute. I was very glad and it told me that my previous runs prior to the 5.5km run had really payed off. I was also very excited in knowing that our next run was to be the 11km run. I knew I was ready for it.
Sunday, 3rd April 2011- Beach walk
Todays beach walk I used to really get over some of my sore muscles from yesterdays 5.5. While walking I was really trying to strech and get rid of all the pain in my legs while at the same time thinking about the next days 11km. I was feeling very nervous at the thought of the 11km run but at the same time confident.
Monday 4th April 2011- (11km) Hardwick bay to Wambana campus
Time- 50:13 secs
Today was one of the sessions in which I had been preparing for for the whole camp. Every run and strength building excersise had been leading into this run. This run was to test our mental, physical and endurance abilities.
Going into the run I have never felt so excited. In the morning I got up and tried preparing for the run as much as I could. I was really trying to stop my self from thinking about all the negetive aspects of the run. Such as the fact that I had never ran 11km before and the fact that I hadn't really ran on sand for a long distance. Even though these thooughts were going through my head, I tried to block them out as much as I could.
Before the run I tried not to eat anything as advised by Dale and just go into the run with some sort of tactics. I ended up not taking up his advice on coming up with a tactic during the run and I ended up just running like I had throughout all the previous runs.
When we arrived at hardwick bay everyne broke out into streches while I just went up about not thinking about anything in particular but just getting my mind off the run. When we were finally told to get ready to begin the race my nerves started kicking in and I started doubting my self if I could complete the run or not. This ultimatly impacted me negetivly but I tried not think about anything else.
Once we were told to start I took off at my own pace getting quit ahead of the rest of the runners. At first my reactions to running on the sand was, "what is this? What am I doing?" I noticed that running on the sand was much more difficult then running on road because it was much softer. At first I was really stuggling but I stayed ahead not worrying about how far I still had to go. One thing I found easier while running on the sand was to try and find the harder parts of the sand. This gave me more grip and made me less fatigued while running at a strong pace.
Once we had been running for around 15 minutes and I was around at the 3km mark I thought it would be a good idea to cut accross and start running right along the water front. Previously I had been running on the soft sand right up next to the edge of the beach. This worked well for me but as soon as I saw the low tide I just couldnt help my self so I ran right across next to the water. At this time I was around 100m in front of everyone else so I thought even if this does effect my time I still have a big ebnough lead on the others. This was by far the biggest mistake I had ever made. And if I were to run the 11km again I would not run right next to the water. By the time I had reached the water the other behind me had caught right up next to me. Even though they hadn't followed my same route I could see them running right alongside me around 60m to the left of me. This made me start to think how much time I had wasted trying to get alongside the beach. Although I kept on running. While I was running along the water I notcied lots of puddles right in front of me. I didnt worry at first because they didnt look very deep. It was only untill I reached these puddles was it till I noticed how deep they were. One of the options I had to try to avoid these puddles was to run around them but Then I relised how big these puddles were so I knew if I ran around them I would lose too much time so I ran straight through them. These puddles in the middle were around to my knees. This was so difficult running through these puddles because when I came our of them I relised that my shoes were drenched. This then made my legs more tired because I had to carry more weight on my feet. This was a real setback for me but I kept on going.
Running the 11km you needed to be very mentaly tough because everytime tyou look up it doesnt look like you've made progress so you keep telling your self to stop. This happened to me many times and a few times I gave in started to walk. I knew I shouldn't of but I did. I just didn't feel like running anymore and I could see that the pair in front of me, Lachy and Ned who were running along the edge of the beach had improved their lead on me.
It was untill around 5km to go that I really started to take off. I stoped worrying about the horrible surface I was running on and the big puddles and really gave it my all. When I could clearly see the finish line I picked up my pace even more and I could even see Lachy and Ned who were now behind me. This was a real spirit boost. By now the puddles started becoming even deeped and bigger but it didnt stop me, I was on a roll. with around 400m behind I knew I was going to win and I was really happy with my self. I finished strongly and I was really happy with my self. After I had recoverd, I went out and supported others.
Refelecting back on the run, our fitness program really prepared us for it. And I am greatful to how much effort I put into all the previous runs. I am really happy with my reult, although I knew that if I hadnt made the mistake of running along the water front I could of done better although running it today made it a bit of a challenge.
When I get home from Wambana I hope to contiune with this fitness progrm and hopefully become mentaly and physically stronger.

Moff's History Tour 1 & 2
Moffs History tour 1
On the 22nd of March we hoped on the bus for the Moffs 1st history tour. Our tour envolved some of the history about the trees, Mines and the settlers in the southern yorke peninsula. Our tour involved going to Innes national park and having tours around that area. With Moffs knowledge all of the boys who took part in the history tour now have more of an understanding of how the Southern Yorke Peninsula developed into strong country towns. In dot points down below I will mention all of things we found out.

- Northfolk Island Pine. The North Folk Island has been proven to be one of the only trees that have been around since the times of the Ice Age.
- Pepercorn tree, The Pepper corn tree has been said to be used as a spice in various locations such as china and India. The spice countries of the world.
- Aleppo Pine, The Aleppo Pine was first introduced in Australia as decorations for rich people with long driveways but can now be considerd as a pest as it effects the habbitats and the enviroments
- Malle gum, The Malle gum trees were once used for fires
- Shee oak, Like the Malle gum tree the Shee oak is also used for fires
- Cypress pine, The cypress pine can be found in places like queensland. One of the attributes of the cypress pine is they burn easily.
- Point Turton mine, The Point Turton min is located at the current Point Turton carravan park. At this old site they used to mine limestone
- Stenhouse bay, At Stenhouse bay they used to Mine MgCO3 and CaCo3. In the olden days Stenhouse bay was also a big Gypum mining area.
- Point Turton Boiler, The Point Turton boiler is located right by the Point Turton Boiler. The old boiler was once and old tug boat which one day sunk.
- 1 room stone house, While on our history tour Moff pointed out a few 1 room stone houses. Moff told us that these house have been around for a long time and were generally used by the rich.
- Ethal, The Ethal was the name of an old boat which had a long time ago and washed up on the beach now known as Ethal beach named after the boat. The boat is still there today.
- Ferret, The Ferret was the name of an old steam boat which was one day stolen by pirates and then retrived again until one day it was washed up on Ethal beach like the Ethal. To this day on some conditions can be seen on the beach.
- Desalintaion plant, In Marion bay they have a desalintion plant to help out with the water shortage. The Desalination plant works by getting water from the sea and taking out the salt to make it drinkable.
- Wateringhole, Wateringholes were once used in place for tribal aboriginies as their wells. when we looked at the holes they were extremly small. The idea of the hole is like pumping borewater out of the ground except from the fact that they used sticks and branches to collect the water from the ground and then suck out the juices.
On the 2nd of April we begun our 2nd history tour with Moff. todays History tour involvled going to the Warooka Museum, Sanderwoodpark and Calvenist Cemetrys of the Southern-Yorke-Peninsula
Museum-
- The house, The old house in which the museum is located today used to be an old troopers place
- The house, The old house in which used to be the museum after the troopers had moved out of it, 3 families and 2 borders lived in there
- China, Located inside the museum is a china plate, Which is said to have been found before the settlers. This plate if known could change Australia's history completely.
Cemetry-
While we were touring around the SYP area we stooped off at a Calvenist Cemetery. The Calvenists were very much against Catholics and had a very strong culture.
One of the Grave stones I noticed-
Gone is the face we loved
So dear
Silent the voice we long
to hear
Life was desired but god
did see
Enter rest was best for
thee
One Thing Moff relised when I told him about this grave stone was that this was not a calvenist grave stone. The reason why Moff believes this is because the Calvenists where very strong believing people and believed in tough love after death so this being a really loving grave stones tells us that these people were not calvenists.
Sanderwood park-
- Amy Buried in the back yard of home
- Last cart in Australia at sanderwood park
- had a Smoked house to cook better tasting food
- One of the few rock walls around a property to this day.
Snorkelling
21st March 2011
Today is one of the days which I was really looking foward too. One of my passions is life is snorkling. Although I had never done snorkling before I am facinated by the views underwater. And yeasterday just made me appriciate the views underwater evenmore. Snorkling is a hobby and jobs for most people which many over sea. I just dont understand this because it is just amazing whats underneath the ocean.
During our snorkling lesson we learnt how to blow out the water from your snorkell after you had just been underwater. This was difficult for me at the time because when I first tried it I managed to suck back all the water back inside my mouth. This made me cough and wasnt exactly the best feeling.
The next lesson we had was we learnt how get rid of the water out of your mask when your underwater. At first all the water inside the mask hurt my nose but I picked the technique up easily and I am told it is a real asset to have in snorkling.
After we had done some lessons we were given free time to just look around. This was easily the highlight of my time in Wambana so far and I hope to go snorkling some time soon again.

Novel
During my stay at Wambana I have been reading a novel called Payback by Andy Mcnab. At first I found reading this book slightly dificult due to the book being a series and I had not read any of the previous books so I did not know what they were talking about. But after a while I figured partly what its about.
The book is about a teenage boy named Danny who is on the run with his grandpa, Fergus who was an ex- secret services officer and was very known. Although at the date I dont really know why they are on the run for.

living in a Wardli
10 Highs and 10 Chaleenges we face while living in the Wardli...
Highs
Session 1
1- I believe some of my strength in the Wardli is that I'm able to compromise and help others. I believe when things need to be done I do them. I also believe that at times I am a bit of a leader by lead in by example. I believe that some of the things I could work on is to stop nagging people do things and just let them do things without me having to tell them to do their job.
2- Some issues that have occurred in our Wardli is a certain individual in our Wardli being extremely lazy and not sharing the load of all the jobs that need to be done while only thinking about himself. This effected all members of the Wardli as without him really effected our Wardlis time management. This was very frustrating as we felt like he didn't really care.
3- Living in the Wardli really makes you start to appreciate what your parents do at home. You also start to feel what its like for them dealing with us, as we are like the lazy people inside the Wardli. now we know how frustrated they must feel having to nag us to try to help them out occasionaly.
Session 2

The most functional person in my Wardli leads by example and makes sure every thing is done on time. He may seem Nagy at times but in the end everyone is. As a leader he is very organised and also thinks about the well being of the other members in his Wardli. Poetry
It Stands as one
As time grows old, It stands as one
When waves crash, It stands as one
When the winds trash, nature grows
Home to many dead to some
Drapping down, clear to the sun
Shapes form, as the water flows
Limestones they stand, All for one

Community Service - Leisure Options
Todays lesuire option was one of the most amzing times on this camp. It took me out of my comfort zone and really tested my interactions with other people. It was also great fun and all people we met there were all unique and amazing people.
For those of you who dont know lesuire options is a program run through the wambana curriculum to interact and play with people who are mentally challenged. At the start when we first arrived Mr. Baird warned us that we really needed to get out of comfort zone and talk with them. He also warned us that some of the people there would be hard to talk to but would gradually get better over the time.
When we first arrived at the place we were told to help these people plant seeds. I was assigned with Harry page with as man named Allan. Imediatly I asked him what he likes doing he just grumbled. From there I knew he'd be hard to talk to. Some of the things I found out about him was he had just moved up from Adelaide and lives in Warroka with his mum and some of his hobbies are gardening. But appart from that he wouldnt answer many of my other questions.
Deffinetly the worst part of the day had to be planting the seas. This is because it took a long time and was very boring. I also found it the worst part of my day because it didnt exactly allow us to interact with the people who I wished to find a lot about.
The best part was deffinetly finding things out about these people. They are unique and a great bunch of people. I really loved there compant and I am really looking foward to our next encounters at the wambana campus.

hooded Plover report
On the 26th of March he headed out to Innes national park to find out more about the unique and nearly extinct "hooded plover".
Aim- Our aim was to find out where about’s the Hooded plovers can be located. Others things we aimed to find out about the Hooded Plover is what are some of their behaviours, how they react when we get close to them and their size.
Method-
Task one (Scribe)- The Scribes Job is to write down all information given by the observers on the Hooded Plovers and are required to write down all of the exact locations given of the Hooded plovers recived by the GPS operator. Other things Scribes are to write are things like what the weathers like and some of their activities.
Task 2 (GPS Operator)- The GPS operator is required to find out all of the exact locations of where Hooded plovers are found through their GPS system. All info gatherd must then be given to the scriber.
Task 3 (Threat observer)- The threat observer has the job of observing some of the ather predetors on the beach which could be considerd as a threat to the Hooded Plover.
Task 4 (Photographer)- The Photographers job is to take photos of any Hooded plovers spoted. The Photographers are also expected to take photos of any Hooded Plover tracks found.
Symnopthsis- During todays search we hope to uncover hidden facts about the Hooded Plover in hope to regain their species. The Hooded Plover is a bird which is 10 cm in stature and 20cm long. Some of the other details about the Hooded Plover is it hads a grey body, a black head, red legs and a red ring around the eye. Hooded Plovers can usualy be found near beaches where they breed.
The Hooded Plovers are small little birds which have said to been only 500 birds left in the world. 50 of them located on the yoke peninsula.

On the 26th of March 2011 it was our objective as a group to observe and write down some of the habits of the birds, where they are located, how many there were and many more things. By doing this we are aiding in helping keep these wonderful creatures alive due to many people are not aware of these birds and these birds going into extinction.
We started the day on a nice start. The weather was a maximum temperature of 22, a minimum temperature of 15, there was no rain, it was 45% humid and the wind was going at 6kmph. The weather was perfect in search of the birds.
One problem we did encounter during our search was a similar type of bird called red cap bird which looked almost identical to the hooded plover. This was made things very hard due to the only way to tell them apart is the red cap is slightly bigger.
During our search we went to pondalowie bay to begin our search. Moff who was taking us during the search, told us that it was very unusual to see one considering there aren’t many of them left in the world. But instantly as soon as we hopped out of the bus we spotted a few just along the beach. The locations of these birds found are (S)35.14.077 (E)136.50.403 At this location there were two hooded plovers wondering around together. The next pair of Hooded Plovers we found was at S)35.14.039 (E)136.50.507. Moff was very happy that we saw so many birds, for this told us that they were starting to regenerate as a species.
Some of the threats we noticed along our walk was some human footprints. This can be very dangerous for the birds eggs as they are laid among the seaweed and very hard to spot which results in us stepping on the eggs and crushing them.
Community Service - Aleppo Pine Removal
On the 24th of March wardlis 4 and 2 headed out to the Yorke town road to clear these various trees called "Aleppo pine trees" which are causing damage to our environment today.
The Aleppo pines are native to Mediterranean regions such as, France, Italy,Spain and regions in North Africa.
The reason why it has been planted and has eventually speared in Australia was firstly planted for decoration purposes and was also used for shade in agriculture areas.
The reason why the SYP are so keen to try to get rid of it is because it is a real problem in these kind of areas. Some of the problems it causes withing the southern-Yorke-peninsula is the roots of the tree damages structures, roads and fences, the trees become fire hazards when they get older, It reduces habitats for bird and the biggest problem is it spreads and regrows at a vigorous rate.
While we were helping out with the removal of the Pines we had the head of the Aleppo pine removal committee member guide us and help us out. His name was Don. Meeting Don was very inspirational as it shows how passionate he is about getting rid of these trees. One of the other amazing things about his volunteering is he is in his 80's and he is doing all this work for our generation in the future and the development of our environmental. It truly is a inspiration to all.
I believe my involvement in the cutting down of these trees really showed to me and developed more of a passion of the environment and how many people there are behind the scenes who help out the environment for other peoples sake and not for there own personal well being.
